Cristóbal studied film at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts but couldn't afford the production tools he needed. He built Runway so that money stops deciding who gets to make visual art. The company started as an NYU class project. It ended up being used in the production pipeline for Everything Everywhere All at Once, the film that swept the Oscars.
